Visit The Siege Museum
The Siege of Londonderry in 1689 is one of the landmark events in British and Irish history. An event of such importance that its outcome has shaped and continues to shape the history of both Britain and Ireland.
For 105 days up to 30,000 Protestant people held the walled city of Londonderry in the face of the Catholic King James II, until the relief fleet broke the boom across the River Foyle on July 28 and the Jacobite forces commenced their retreat on August 1, 1689.
The new Siege Museum and Exhibition is a permanent display of the history of the Siege of Londonderry and of the Associated Clubs of the Apprentice Boys of Derry, including artefacts, video and interactive media. Visitors on group bookings or guided tours will also have the added attraction of being able to view one of the finest collections of meeting rooms used by the ‘Loyal Orders’. There are separate rooms for each of the orders:
- Apprentice Boys of Derry
- Orange Order
- Women’s Orange
- The Royal Black Institution
