Get to know Housekeeping Manager, Soulef

Meet Soulef, the treasured Housekeeping Manager at the Everglades Hotel who has worked with us for 15 years. She is responsible for keeping your rooms perfect and ensuring all housekeeping duties are fulfilled to the highest standard.

What does your day-to-day role look like?

My main role is within the Housekeeping Department, first and foremost supporting my housekeeping team and ensuring rooms are maintained to the high standard set. Prior to guests checking in, I will do an inspection of all the bedrooms to ensure the guests walk into a bedroom the way I would hope to walk into a hotel bedroom. I put myself in the shoes of my guests, as I want to ensure nothing is missed during the servicing of the rooms. In addition to my department, I oversee any functions taking place on a daily basis and look after the lounge and lobby areas. I support the restaurant during breakfast service and early afternoon for lunch, as well as afternoon tea service. I take pride in making sure that guests staying with us have a memorable time and that we exceed their expectations.

When did you start working at Hastings Hotels?

I started in 2008 as the housekeeping supervisor. It became apparent very early on in my employment that there was a great opportunity for career progression, you just have to work hard, have passion for the industry, and be committed. The General Manager back then was Stephen Meldrum, who is now the General Manager of our sister hotel the Grand Central Hotel in Belfast. Mr. Meldrum promoted me to Housekeeping Manager, and I was offered numerous training courses throughout my progression which helped me along the way and get to where I am today.

What do you love most about your role?

Simply, being part of a great team that is passionate about their place of work and working collectively together.

Outside of work, what are your favourite things to do?

I love spending quality time with my two gorgeous sons who mean the world to me and my partner Eion. To get a bit of ‘me’ time, I spend up to an hour a day at my local gym doing various workouts and I enjoy going for walks along the River Foyle.

Can you describe the Everglades Hotel in 3 words?

Fun, Challenging and Rewarding.
